  • Are the classes spiritual or religious?
Whilst I respect all the traditional elements of yoga, I very rarely use Sanskrit language or terminology in class anymore. In my experience I have found that the use of Sanskrit can often be confusing, or even come across as pretentious. I prefer a simpler approach that I hope helps your yoga learning process. I don't chant in the scheduled classes. However, I'm happy to chant if required in private tuition. To be completely inclusive I endeavour to avoid any religious reference. The classes are ethical, moral and created primarily to enhance our mental and physical wellbeing. Applying what we learn about ourselves, and using this to enhance our day to day life. Better in self discipline, better in health and better in our relationship with others. 😌
  • Do I need to bring anything?
I do provide clean mats, and equipment. However, of course your more than welcome to bring your own equipment.
  • Do I need to book in advance?
Yes please. The Yoga room is small and there are only 10 places available in each session, and as I believe in quality over quantity and allows for room between mats. Knowing how many people will be attending gives me the opportunity to set up the studio in advance. This allows you the best position for your visibility and also enables me to also have the best view to attend your needs as a teacher. You can book via the website, or the 'Fit by Wix' App. Just look for Viva Yoga.

  • I have some current injuries. Can I still do yoga?
Safety is paramount to me when it comes to your practice. I believe that moving joints and improving circulation and lung capacity by moving slowly and not forcing will help you transition back to health and recovery. Yoga can help with stiffness and give relief from joint pain, and is immensely beneficial if you should suffer with depression or anxiety. I would suggest you attend the calm sessions to begin with, as the movement is slow and mindful, almost like moving meditation.
  • What kind of yoga do you teach?
I'm Sam Walker, your instructor. It's nearly 30 years since my first yoga session, and 28 years as a teacher and teacher trainer. After practicing all styles of yoga, such as Ashtanga, Iyengar, Sivananda and Yin, I feel I've selected the most beneficial yoga poses and crafted different ways to transition into them, with safety being my priority. Whether you choose a calm class or an uplifting class, no two sessions will be the same. Each session will be adapted to those who attend on the day.
  • I've never done yoga before. Will I be ok?
Yes, absolutely you will be fine. I make sure to keep a good eye on any newcomer. I like to pitch the level of the class to enable you to feel a little challenged and relaxed, but never overwhelmed. All current attendees are very warm and welcoming. It's our aim to have you feel welcome.
  • Can I cancel or amend Booking?
Yes of course. You can cancel or ament right up to 24 hours before class. Here's how to do this.... Log in to vivayoga.co.uk site. Go to My Bookings page under your Login icon. Click Cancel under the session you wish to remove. Confirm that you wish to cancel the session.
